Somatic Experiencing®
Do you sometimes feel stuck in your emotions, relationships or body, even after thinking things through?
Somatic Experiencing® (SE), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a body-oriented approach to working with stress and trauma. One of its central ideas is that protective responses can remain active after a difficult experience. In sessions, we pay attention to sensations, emotions and impulses and explore them gradually, so that a different response becomes possible.
I’m a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) and certified somatic coach.
How it works
Sometimes understanding a situation is not enough to change the reaction that keeps happening.
In Somatic Experiencing we slow down and pay attention to the body, where many of these reactions show up first.
Constant change and an uncertain future can leave the nervous system on alert, as though danger were always close by. Part of the work is helping it settle in the present.
You’ll learn to notice your inner signals, not to fix them but to understand them. We go in manageable steps and you stay in control of what we explore.
This can help with:
- Regulating stress and emotional overwhelm
- Feeling steadier in situations that used to throw you
- Working with long-held patterns through the body, not only by talking about them
- Making choices while paying attention to both your thoughts and your body’s signals
If you already practise yoga or breathwork, you can bring that experience into the sessions. We explore how you respond to situations in your own life.
We do not force change. We simply notice what is happening and explore what shifts when you give those sensations and reactions room.
I offer somatic coaching, not medical diagnosis or psychological treatment. The sessions can take place alongside care you already receive.
It is not a quick fix either: some things shift quickly, others take time.
